When that happens, data becomes fragmented, systems fail to deliver insight, and decisions are made without confidence. Our philosophy is simple: clarity comes before systems. Finance works best when structure, process, and intent are defined first – then supported by the right tools, automation, and technology.

IF-THEN Finance Solutions is a Boston-area finance operations consultancy for biotech and SaaS companies, founded in 2025 by former biotech controller Mario Simms. It exists to help businesses design finance operations intentionally – before costly decisions are made.
After years of working inside finance teams, we saw the same pattern repeat: companies investing time and money into new systems without a clear vision of what those systems were meant to support. The result was complexity, rework, and a constant feeling of starting over.
As technology evolves faster – especially with the rapid shift toward AI, that risk only increases. Businesses don’t need more tools, they need the right tools, supported by the right processes, at the right time.
Our role is to help businesses understand what’s being implemented, how it fits into their finance operation, and whether it creates real impact or just added complexity.

Mario Simms brings over a decade of experience across biotech, high-growth startups, and multi-entity finance environments.
From chaotic month-end closes to supporting IPO launch, Mario has led finance operations through periods of rapid growth and operational complexity. His background spans accounting operations, FP&A, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, audit support, and finance system implementations.
During his career, Mario cut month-end close from 20+ days to 10 business days, built an FP&A function and a consolidated cash-flow model, and supported an IPO readiness initiative – all inside fast-moving finance environments.
Born in Los Angeles and raised between Brazil and the United States, Mario brings a global perspective and adaptable approach to business and leadership. He now resides in the Boston area with his wife and growing family.
